A Pair of 18th Century Rose-Cut Diamond Pendant Earrings
An extremely rare pair of 18th-century rose-cut diamond pendant earrings. Each earring is centred by a single rose-cut diamond, surrounded by two further rows of diamonds arranged in a delicate scalloped cluster. The graduated arrangement creates depth and a soft, shimmering surface, characteristic of mid-18th-century design.
The rose cut, with its flat base and faceted domed crown, was the dominant diamond cut of the period, prized for its ability to glow in candlelight. Set in the traditional manner of the time — silver-topped over gold — the mounting enhances the luminosity of the diamonds.
Earrings of this date and quality are exceptionally scarce, particularly surviving as a matching pair.
Mounted in 18ct gold and silver.
French, circa 1750.
